South Korea will be launching the full-fledged 5G mobile network, and it will be the first nationwide launch in the world. While the United States is expected to launch online in cities such as Chicago in 2 weeks, South Korea will be launching it by nation scale. All the major South Korean mobile networks KT, SK Telecom, and LG UPlus are to release the network on the same day. More than three million users are to switch to the 5G network on the day of the release. It is the first major transition that will bring numerous changes. Just like how the transition from 3G to 4G brought a new generation of businesses such as Uber, 5G is also expected to bring a new generation of changes.
The speed of the 5G network is 20 times faster than the 4G network. It can bring better and more efficient functions for electric cars and power grids. While it is positive that it will bring many changes, it is also expected to bring new tension to the world. The growing tension between the United States and China has expanded to the network as well. The United States continuously urges its allies to move away from the Chinese network, Huawei. However, Huawei has managed to snag more than a third of the patents that are known of the 5G network. Up to date, even though South Korea is the fastest on the release of the 5G network, Huawei is the biggest on the network. South Korea falls second while United States’ companies combined still fall behind Nokia alone.
It is the start of a new generation of technology. While it is expected to bring numerous positive changes to the world, it is also expected to bring tension along as well. However, the biggest news that we have to see is the result of what will happen to South Korea. The nation is expected to have a full launch in a few days, and will its grand opening be successful?
